Looking after your skin during isolation

Skincare advice straight from the doctor! Keep your skin looking fresh while inside and maintain the results of your last facial or treatment with our expert skincare tips.

During this period of isolation it’s trickier to look after your skin and your usual skincare regime may have been temporarily abandoned. But being at home doesn’t mean our skin need be neglected; there is still plenty we can do to look after our complexions during this time:

Give your skin a break
Self-isolating? Working from home? This is the perfect opportunity to ditch the makeup routine and give your skin time to breathe. When we wear makeup we are adding an extra layer on top of our skin, which can lead to clogged pores, breakouts and redness. Using this time to reset can only help to clear and refresh the complexion.

Make your skincare regime a habit
We all know a good, consistent regime is great for our skin. In reality, the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life can make a regular routine difficult to maintain. For those who can stay at home this is the perfect opportunity to get into a habit of a simple yet effective skincare regime and if stuck to during isolation, this is much more likely to seamlessly slip into your daily life when normality resumes. An easy 3-step routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising is a great place to start!

Keep your skin clear but don’t over clean!
Yes- keeping your skin clean is important and with more time on your hands you might be enjoying more long relaxing showers and baths. This is great for both body and mind but be careful not to overdo it and dry out the skin.

Remember your SPF
If you are getting to spend more time outside don’t forget to wear your SPF even if the sun isn’t shining. We recommend using a SPF 15-30 ALL YEAR ROUND to protect the skin from potentially dangerous UV rays and signs of premature aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.

Think positive
This is a stressful, anxious time for many and this puts a lot of pressure on both body and mind. When we are stressed or worried our skin becomes more sensitive and reactive which can cause inflammation and breakouts. Try taking a time out each day to do something you enjoy, get lost in a good book or practice some yoga and meditation. It is so important for your physical and mental wellbeing to find things that help you relax during these times of uncertainty.
