6 Things You Should Know Before Getting Dermal Filler Treatment

Dermal fillers are our most popular treatment at VIVA Skin Clinics, which is great news as we are dermal filler specialists. Our 4 injectors all have many years of experience between them and have carried out thousands of treatments meaning we know best when it comes to fillers!

Whether you’re thinking about getting them or have heard about them and want to learn more, you’re in the best place to familiarize yourself before having them.

1.What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are small injections of hyaluronic acid-based gel that fill in wrinkles and to provide volume to our skin. Dermal fillers can be used in various areas of the face, including the eyes, cheeks, mouth, and jawline, as well as lip fillers that are injected directly into lips to add more volume

2. How do dermal fillers work?

Largely used as an anti-ageing injectable treatment, they help to restore lost volume to the face and hands as well as accelerating the production of collagen in the skin where collagen and elastin production has begun to deplete due to the normal process of ageing.

3. How long do dermal fillers last?

Most face fillers last between six and 18 months, depending on how your body reacts and which hyaluronic acid is used. Because the majority of fillers aren’t permanent, you’ll have to return back to the clinic, in order to maintain results once or twice a year.

Most hyaluronic acid fillers tend to fall within the 6-to-18-month range, but can be broken down below:

Lip Filler: 6-9 months

Tear Trough Filler: 6-9 months

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty: 6-9 months

Cheek Filler: 9-12 months

Temple Filler: 9-12 months

Nasolabial Filler: 9-12 months

Jawline Filler: 12-15 months

Chin Filler: 12-15 month

4.What are the side effects of face fillers?

It’s completely normal to have some soreness, redness, and bruising following the treatment. Redness, swelling, discomfort, itching, bruising, and tenderness at the injection site are common reactions that occur shortly after the needle injection. These symptoms are usually mild to moderate and go away quickly after injection.

5. Does face filler  hurt?

Everybody has different pain thresholds, and different degrees of sensitivity across different areas of their face, however we find that most patients find the treatment much less painful than anticipated. At VIVA Skin Clinics, we try and reduce pain as much as possible, using the finest needles possible and using numbing cream to temporarily numb the surface of the skin.

6. Do I need a consultation?

We advise all patients to seek a consultation first, before a treatment in order to discuss skin goals and how practitioners can help. You might assume you only want dermal fillers, but depending on your skin type and goals, a professional may prescribe a different treatment—or a combination of treatments.
