Many of us will develop jowls as we age. The term jowls refers to the area of skin that sags below the jawline as fatty deposits under skin gather in pockets and are weighed down due to the loss of collagen and elastin.
These essential proteins and the connective tissues are what keeps our skin taught and retains its ability to bounce back. When these begin to depreciate over time, we start to experience a slackening of the skin and a loss of support to the facial structure. Ageing also causes our bones to shrink, so it stands to reason that in advanced ageing, the skin, muscles and fats that drape the framework of our face will begin to slide.
Jowls are a common problem, but thankfully they are easily overcome through non surgical, non invasive techniques, here at VIVA Skin Clinics.
