There is a very common misconception that dermal fillers can make skin sag, however we can safely say that this is FALSE. People assume that once they have been fully absorbed by your body you will be left with loose, hanging skin leaving you looking even older than you did previously. Here, we’re going to set the records straight…
False: Fillers Make Your Skin Sag
The truth is, dermal fillers add such a subtle and healthy amount of volume to the skin, that any skin stretching will be minimal. As you begin to lose facial volume, the underlying structure of your skin becomes compromised and without the volume you experience in your youth, the skin naturally begins to droop. In fact, if you are starting to experience sagging skin, they will take up the space that was once occupied by natural fat, therefore, eliminating sagging skin.
Furthermore, dermal fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural molecule found in your skin which gives it the ability to attract and retain moisture. When they are injected, they keep your skin hydrated, soft, and supple and will in turn increase levels of collagen and restore skin elasticity, meaning skin is less likely to become saggy.
Despite what you may have heard, injecting facial fillers into your skin does not stretch the skin and cause further damage. If at any time you choose to discontinue the use of dermal fillers, your skin will just return to its previous condition.
