One of the wonderful things about dermal fillers is that they require very little aftercare and downtime. In the right hands they are incredibly fuss free procedures and the ideal alternative to their surgical alternatives. That said, there are still certain points to consider before going ahead with a filler appointment to reduce the risk of swelling, bruising and redness. We often get asked what measures need to be taken following treatment in clinic and have answered some of the most common queries below:
Can I fly?
It is possible for swelling and bruising to be slightly worse if you fly so to minimise this as much as possible you should allow 48 hours post treatment before flying.
Can I go straight back to work?
You are able to go straight back to your normal working day after your appointment but you should be aware that you might experience some swelling or redness. We recommend applying ice and arnica to help this go down as quickly as possible.
Can I drink?
It is best not to drink alcohol for 24 hours prior to your procedure and also for the 48 hours following your appointment.
Can I exercise?
It’s important to avoid strenuous exercise and swimming for 48 hours following treatment.
Can I wear make-up?
You should avoid applying make-up for 24 hours after your procedure. You should also keep the treated area dry and clean and try your best not to massage or scratch.
Can I have a facial massage?
It takes around 14 days for product to completely settle and for residual swelling to subside so you should therefore allow at least 2 weeks before having a facial massage
Can I have another treatment?
Generally speaking we recommend allowing 2 weeks between separate treatments but if you are unsure about a particular procedure you are always welcome to check during consultation or contact the clinic. If you are looking to review your results after your initial treatment you are very welcome to do so but we do ask you wait 14 days to ensure bruising and swelling has completely gone down.
Can I use a sauna or steam room?
Heat related environments such as sauna, steam room and Jacuzzis should be avoided for a 48-hour period following your appointment.
Can I sunbathe?
Again, we recommend avoiding direct sunlight as much as possible for 48 hours after a dermal filler treatment.
Can I wear glasses after facial fillers?
If you have been to clinic for our non-surgical rhinoplasty treatment you need to avoid anything resting or pushing on the treated area so we ask you wait 48 hours before wearing your glasses again and that you stick to contacts.
