Top Myths About Dermal Filler – Busted!
Myth: The effects of injectables can be permanent.
Concerns along these lines generally stem from cases where permanent fillers have been used. The dermal filler treatments we carry out at VIVA Skin Clinics are temporary, being based on hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in the skin. This means that results are not permanent and will dissolve over time. Most hyaluronic acid fillers tend to fall within the 6-to-18-month range, but can be broken down below:
Lip Filler: 6-9 months
Tear Trough Filler: 6-9 months
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty: 6-9 months
Cheek Filler: 9-12 months
Temple Filler: 9-12 months
Nasolabial Filler: 9-12 months
Jawline Filler: 12-15 months
Chin Filler: 12-15 months
Myth: Dermal Filler makes skin sag
There is a very common misconception that dermal fillers can make skin sag, however, we can safely say that this is FALSE. People assume that once they have been fully absorbed by your body you will be left with loose, hanging skin leaving you looking even older than you did previously.
The truth is, dermal fillers add such a subtle and healthy amount of volume to the skin, that any skin stretching will be minimal. As you begin to lose facial volume, the underlying structure of your skin becomes compromised and without the volume, you experience in your youth, the skin naturally begins to droop. In fact, if you are starting to experience sagging skin, they will take up the space that was once occupied by natural fat, therefore, eliminating sagging skin.
Myth: It is easy to tell who has had dermal filler.
This is false. The only cases in which this is true, when the patient has had too much treatment or their treatment has been poorly administered. Our goal is to give you the best aesthetic outcome that is authentically you, with natural non-surgical results that instil ever-lasting confidence.
Myth: Dermal filler treatment is very painful.
In most cases, this is false. Everybody has different pain thresholds, and different degrees of sensitivity across different areas of their face, however, we find that most patients find the treatment much less painful than anticipated. At VIVA Skin Clinics, we try and reduce pain as much as possible, using the finest needles possible and using Topical anaesthetic to temporarily numb the surface of the skin.
Myth: Dermal filler causes bruising every time
Every patient is different, therefore when it comes to bruising, it depends on whether the individual is prone to bruising or not. Some patients experience bruising, some not at all. We use very specific techniques and small needles to avoid as much bruising as possible. Any swelling that occurs can be reduced with a cold compress and should be completely gone within 14 days.
