Don’t Sweat It: Anti-Wrinkle Injections Can Be Used To Treat Hyperhidrosis

Sweating when you exercise or when you get hot is completely normal but for some excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) can happen unexpectedly and when the body doesn’t actually need to cool down.

When Hyperhidrosis – a.k.a. excessive sweating – happens, it can feel uncomfortable and can also have a detrimental impact on a person’s self-esteem. If this sounds familiar, VIVA are here to offer you the perfect non-surgical solution: anti-wrinkle injections.

How do anti-wrinkle injections for excessive sweating work?

Contrary to popular belief, anti-wrinkle injections aren’t only used to treat fine lines and wrinkles. They can also be used to address a number of medical conditions, including hyperhidrosis. For people who suffer with excessive sweating, the nerves that activate your sweat glands when you get too hot are overactive and anti-wrinkle injections can be used to essentially block these nerve signals, stopping the sweat glands from producing too much sweat. Results of treatment can be expected to last around 3-4 month and can then be topped up when necessary.

What can I expect from my appointment?

As with any treatment, we will firstly conduct a one-to-one virtual consultation with one of our VIVA experts. This is the perfect opportunity to discuss your treatment plan, talk about aftercare and ask any questions you have ahead of your clinic appointment.

Does it hurt?

You may experience minimal discomfort during the procedure but everyone is different and you may not feel anything at all. There may also be some bruising, tenderness and sensitivity post treatment but this can be expected to subside in around 48 hours leaving you ready to enjoy life- sweat free!

Is it safe?

At VIVA, your safety is our number one priority and we use the safest and most rigorously tested products for all of our procedures. The anti-wrinkle product we use is FDA approved and has an excellent treatment record. Our VIVA team is also made up of medical professionals who are highly trained and experienced, ready to offer you honest advice and bespoke treatments.

What else can I do to help prevent excessive sweating?

Alongside hyperhidrosis treatment, there are also a few things you can do to keep excessive sweating to a minimum:

  • Wear loose fitting clothes that allow your skin to breathe.
  • Opt for leather shoes where possible and change shoes daily.
  • Avoid man-made fabrics such as nylon.
  • Avoid activities that make sweating worse such as drinking alcohol and eating spicy foods.
