How many syringes for lip filler?

One question that is on everybody’s lips (no pun intended!) is “how many syringes of lip filler should I have?”

Lip fillers are a super popular injectable treatment. Of course, there is a first time for everything and every day new patients are having this amazing treatment for the very first time. When things are new, it can be difficult to navigate between useful information and misinformation, particularly when it comes to social media. It can start to become confusing and more often than not when a patient visits us for consultation, they have questions. One question that is on everybody’s lips (no pun intended!) is “how many syringes of lip filler should I have?”

How much dermal filler is in one syringe?

When we talk about a syringe of filler, we are usually referring to 1ml of product (that’s around 1/5th of a teaspoon). At VIVA, we explain treatment amounts in terms of mls. This is so that it is clear to our patients how much product is being administered. The volume of filler we use can sound low, but we only need a small amount to see results. Most importantly we want the results to look natural. The amount of product we use will depend on a number of factors. This is including the patient’s age, skin quality, areas being treated, desired results and what is going to achieve their best aesthetic outcomes.

How many syringes of dermal filler do you need when having lip filler?

Lip filler treatments are popular here at the clinic and our VIVA Associates, Nurse Eva and Nurse Vikki are experts in this area. We are all about achieving beautiful, natural-looking results so every new patient receives a full-face consultation and bespoke treatment plan. When it comes to treating the lips, we usually recommend starting with 0.5ml of filler. This is often the perfect amount to add volume, whilst keeping you looking like you! In some cases, you may come back to clinic for to build upon this volume if you want to achieve a bit more fullness. Ultimately, every patient is unique so your treatment plan and the amount of product recommended will be based around your facial features and your desired results.

Which products are used for lip filler treatments?

There are a number of dermal filler products on the market and it can be a bit of a minefield figuring out which ones produce the best results. At VIVA Skin Clinics, we opt for products from the Juvederm Vycross range every time. These products are of the highest quality and considered some of the safest on the market. Each product is also designed to treat specific areas of the face for maximum results. When treating the lips, a product like Juvederm Volbella is preferable. It’s super soft and hydrating – perfect for a plump, luscious pout.

What can lip filler achieve?

Lip fillers can achieve a great deal. Yes, they can add volume and fullness but they can also create symmetry, add definition, shape the lips, add hydration, balance proportions and contour the Cupid’s bow. Lip fillers are a versatile treatment, so a consultation is important to discuss just what you wish to achieve.

What if my lips look too small after lip filler?

Slow and steady wins the race so we tend to take a conservative approach to adding filler product to the lips. This way we steer clear of overfilled, obvious results. We usually recommend beginning with 0.5ml of dermal filler (half a syringe) to achieve a subtle lip plump. If, after 2 weeks, you feel that you want a little more lip volume then we can book another session. We can then build on the volume in a safe and measured way.

What if my lips look too big after lip filler?

At VIVA Skin Clinics we always avoid overfilling the lips. If after a couple of days, you feel that they look a little bigger than expected, the likelihood is that this is down to a small amount of bruising and swelling. The lips are sensitive and these are common side effects after an injectable treatment. To reduce the risk of swollen lips you can apply arnica cream and use an ice pack post treatment. You should also follow your aftercare advice carefully. We ask all of our patients to allow 2 weeks for everything to settle and to see your final results.

What is the ‘golden radio’ for lips?

The ‘golden ration’ is all about maths but if we consider it in simple aesthetic terms, it boils down to a sense of beauty which is appreciated because of its harmony and proportions. According to the ‘golden ration’, the bottom lip should be 1.618 times bigger than the top lip. We can use this ratio as a guide when treating the lips but ultimately every patient is different and your consultation will be based around you. This is essentially a guide for perfect proportions but when we treat patients, we are looking to achieve their individual best aesthetic outcomes. Everyone is unique and we embrace that at VIVA Skin Clinics!

How long do lip filler results last?

Dermal fillers don’t last forever. They are non-surgical injectables that need to be repeated to maintain results. Generally speaking, fillers can last anywhere between 6 and 12 months. Some products such as Juvederm Volux can last even longer. When it comes to lip filler, we would expect them to last around 6 months. It’s therefore recommended to book in your next appointment after treatment to keep your lips looking fresh!
