Botox VS Dermal Fillers
We use Botox and dermal fillers as cosmetic treatments given through injections. The main difference between Botox and dermal fillers is that dermal fillers are injected beneath the surface of the skin to add volume and fullness whilst Botox is a prescription-only, medicinal treatment that blocks nerve signals in the muscles where injected. Although they both have similarities, they are two very different types of treatment. So lets break down the Botox VS Dermal Fillers below.
What is Botox?
We use Botulinum toxin also known as Botox in cosmetics to correct fine lines and wrinkles. Botox injections work by blocking nerve signals in the muscles where injected. As nerve signals are interrupted, the injected muscle is temporarily frozen. Losing movement of these targeted muscles in the face, certain wrinkles may be softened, reduced, or even removed. Botox is a preventive drug to help soften lines and wrinkles on the face but can also be used to slim the jawline by reducing the strength of the masseter.
What areas does Botox treat?
When using Botox on the upper face, it treats a number of concerns like; forehead wrinkles, eleven lines (between the eyebrows), frown lines and crow’s feet. We can also inject Botox to lift the eyebrows in a non-surgical brow lift.
These range from wide jaw, teeth grinding, lip lines and gummy smile to neck bands (the lines that run horizontally across the neck).
We use Botox for a number of conditions that have occurred through the repeated use of muscles in the face that have resulted in the appearance of wrinkles. The use of Anti-wrinkle injections to the mid face requires an advanced understanding of the facial muscular anatomy. Crow’s feet is a popular area to treat in the midface to allow smile lines to soften when smiling.
Is Botox permanent?
Botox is not a permenant treatment or solution. Repeated treatments are necessary for continued wrinkle-reducing effects. Most people find that the muscle-relaxing effect of Anti-wrinkle lasts for 3 to 4 months, with the most effective time being 6 weeks after treatment.
What are Dermal Fillers?
Using Dermal fillers correctly by injecting beneath the surface of the skin we add volume and fullness restoring a more youthful appearance to the face. Fillers help to restore lost volume to the face and hands as well as accelerating the production of collagen in the skin where collagen and elastin production has begun to deplete due to the ageing process.
At VIVA Skin Clinics, we are proud to use Juvederm Fillers, one of the safest and most renowned brands. This product makes for lovely natural dermal fillers.

How can Botox and Dermal Fillers work together?
Even though Anti-wrinkle and fillers are very different types of injectables; they complement each other nicely. Combining Anti-wrinkle and dermal fillers is beneficial because they treat different types of wrinkles. While Anti-wrinkle relaxes dynamic wrinkles, dermal fillers smooth out static wrinkles, which are visible even when the face is at rest. Dermal fillers restore lost volume and help to sculpt youthful looking contours something Botox is not able to treat.
Using Botox and dermal fillers together can also prolong the results of treatment and further enhance and prevent wrinkles while restoring a more youthful appearance.
Finally, both Botox and dermal fillers are non-invasive and well-tolerated by patients. There is very little down-time and the results appear within a few days, therefore they are great alternative to surgery.
