Laser hair removal surgery works by emitting a focused laser beam such as an ND:YAG that has a wavelength attracted to hair follicles- or pigment. The laser detects the contrast of hair from the skin and targets each hair strand per pulse. Laser is not as effective on blonde hair because the wavelength or engery emitted is attracted to darker piment such as brown or black hair. Once the hair follicle has been warmed up by the laser it is destroyed and falls out. The body has three stages of hair growth, catagen, anagen and telogen. Each phase must be treated during laser hair surgery to ensure all remaining hair is targeted to avoid patchy results.
At your laser hair removal surgery appointment you can expect to have a face to face consultation with you laser therapist to review important safety pre-cautions such as wearing safety glasses and check the hair growoth and thickness of the area you are interested in treating. During the treatment you may feel a slight warm sensation followed by a blast of cool air while the laser is pulsed accross the treatment area. Your therapist will mark out the area of treatment to ensure you are happy and confirm this is where you would like the hair removed.
